In his book Angels, Billy Graham tells the story told by Reverend John G. Paton, a missionary in the South Pacific in the New Hebrides Islands.
One night Paton and his wife were threatened by hostile natives who surrounded their mission headquarters, planning to burn the Patons out and kill them. They prayed throughout the night asking God to protect them from harm. When daylight came, they were amazed that the warriors had left without attacking them.
About a year later, the chief of the native tribe became a Christian. He and John Paton discussed that night, “Why didn’t you attack us that night?” The chief replied, “Who were all those men you had with you?” Paton replied, “There was no one other than my wife and I.” The chief responded, that he and his warriors had seen hundreds of men standing guard around the mission grounds, men in “shining garments with drawn swords in their hands.”
2 Kings 6:17: “Then Elisha prayed and said, ‘O LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.’ And the LORD opened the servant's eyes and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”
Elisha could see angels. He prayed for his servant’s eyes to be opened and the servant could then see the angels. Let’s also pray and have faith, that like Elisha’s servant, we too will see angels.
